Since opening in 2015, the GJC has honored the memory of Gregory “Jocko” Jackson — a Brownsville native, professional basketball player, and community leader behind the Brownsville Recreation Center and the Brownsville Partnership whose motto was “Who are you going to help today?”
Today, the Greg Jackson Center is a workspace for several organizations on the second, third, and fourth floors, while the ground floor boasts a large conference room, reception area, and garden that are free for residents, nonprofits, and community groups to book for meetings, trainings, organizing, and events open to the neighborhood.
Organizations in the building include:
-
- Coalition for Hispanic Family Services
- America Works
- PureLegacee
- United for Brownsville
We regularly host food, clothing, toy, and goods drives and distributions, free tax preparation, ceremonies for nonprofit programs, resident planning meetings, and more.
