Op-Ed | Governor Hochul, don’t leave NYC children behind in early intervention funding

Categories:

United for Brownsville just posted its first op-ed today in AMNY. The op-ed reflects upon the successes that United for Brownsville has had eliminating racial disparities in access to Early Intervention (EI) in Brownsville, as well as the limits of that work. We could increase access to EI services even more quickly in Brownsville and throughout NYC and NY State if something were done to increase the supply of EI providers in historically underserved communities. That is something that only the State of New York can do. The 2025 proposed budget does call for an increase in EI provider pay rates across the board and in underserved communities, but the increase does not go far enough to stabilize the workforce and incentivize provisions in areas with inequitable access to EI services.
