Welcome, Diouma Diawara, FAB Fundraising Fellow

Categories:

UB is enthused to welcome FAB member Diouma Diawara to the role of FAB Fellow for 2023-2024. Diouma is a Brownsville-based mother of three who was born and raised in the West African country of Mali. She came to the US in her early 20s, and has done so much to contribute to her communities in the US and abroad since then.

This spring Diouma was voted in by her fellow members of UB’s Family Advisory Board (FAB) to become the fifth FAB Fellow — a one year, part-time position that creates opportunities for FAB members to build essential career skills while fulfilling essential needs for the organization. Two previous FAB Fellows have become full-time UB staff members. This year, the focus of the role is on fundraising, and Diouma will work hand-in-hand with staff and consultants from UB and Brownsville Partnership to ensure sustainability for the organization.

We are thrilled that Diouma has started in this role. She has been a FAB member since 2018, most recently while working as assistant to the director of finance in a talent management company. Diouma attended BMCC and Baruch College, where she majored in Accounting, and she has taken on numerous leadership roles in addition to her work with UB and her responsibilities to her family and school. At Baruch, she was a member of the National Association of Black Accountants, treasurer of the African student Association at Baruch, and president of Le Club Francais. She is passionate about making a difference in the lives of others, and in she collects shoes ,clothes, and toys to be sent to children in African villages. Diouma hopes her time on the backbone team will help her develop fundraising practices that will help her own nonprofit career aspirations. We can’t wait to work with her as she grows into the role!
